They are premoistened with a salivary supplement which consists of an aqueous solution of electrolytes with sorbitol and sodium carboxymethylcellulose. The solution is colourless, has a neutral pH and a mild mint flavour. The electrolytes are chloride and phosphate salts of sodium, potassium and calcium. Directions for use MOI-STIK SWABSTICKS are usually used by the nursing staff although they can be used by the patients. The swab is used to gently cleanse all intraoral surfaces, the palate, buccal mucosa, gingivae, teeth, floor of the mouth, tongue and lips. Optimal results are obtained after 2-3 minutes using all three disposable swabsticks. The procedure should be repeated every 3-4 hours while the patient is awake although treatment can be given more frequently if extremely dry conditions exist in the mouth or to remove accumulated debris.
